reason and fl studio
Does anybody know anything about these two programs?

If no one knows then the following questions I've got to ask are obsolete.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I use FL very much, and am in fact using it today to make some EDM.  I can probably be of some use.

I'm aware of Reason, but haven't used it much.  I probably won't be of much use.

If you're trying to figure out which one to buy, then I don't know, but I can strongly recommend FL.  It feels good, it's easy to use, and it's SO goddamned pretty (the following is a screencap of the song I'm making now):

And here's Reason, which to me looks like an 80's PC magazine threw up on the screen (not my song, found on google):

Overall, my impression is that Reason seems to be leaning toward modeling a physical system: virtual cables, a complex mixer with lots of knobs and buttons, where as FL takes a more software approach: easy editing of envelopes and curves, very nice sequencing options and appearance, etc.

What I was confused about but I've kind of had it cleared up now is the cost of the products.

It's well known that fl studio is cheaper than reason.

But then I compared the two and fl studio seemed to cost over double the price of reason, now I've realized that people don't tend to buy the most expensive version because it comes with plugins that not many people use.

The plugins that people do tend to use do cost quite a bit of money though.  Sylenth, dada life sausage and massive.

Obviously there's some piracy going on.  If you have teenagers online saying they're using fl studio with these two synths but sometimes they use reason or Cubase.

Unless they have over a grand to spare on music making programs.

Not that I'm taking the moral high ground.  I managed to get fl studio 11 for cheaper than 12.  Now I'm working on getting these three synths.

I do like fl studio, I've recently learned about lfo manipulation because I'm trying to get into dubstep making.

I'm kind of a pack rat. I collect things I don't really need to collect. But I'm pretty sure Massive is wayyyy out of my price range.

Oh wait, I was thinking of Komplete, which is like $1000. Is Massive part of it?

Wait #2. . . if you bought FL studio 11 after 12 came out, can't you just right away upgrade for free added goodness? But. . . you aren't allowed to do that, are you? Didn't someone have to give you the password to their account to be able to DL it?

According the Native Instruments site, Massive is available stand alone for $149. However if you were in the market for it, I would strongly recommend you consider Komplete Select which is only $50 more and comes with several other very good synths and some very good processors. I use Replika all the time.

Make sure to get one of those t-shirts that says "I'm an atheist producer.  I use Logic and Reason."
If we came from dust, then why is there still dust?

tbh, I find the stock plugins sufficient for me.  I can't remember if I had to buy Sytrus or not, but I use it for 80% of my synth needs.

I have a friend who has the Komplete full set (the $1000), but I realized. . . just figuring out what you even HAVE would take weeks of hard work, and then how many are you every really going to use?

For me, the big bucks would be better spent on something like Kontakt with one of the big orchestra packs or something. But actually, when I was searching around to figure out what Massive is and why I don't have it, I did find Komplete Select, which looks really reasonable.

Some specific details required a google search.  Getting the vocoder to work took about 20 minutes of watching Youtube vids.  There are literally vids in Youtube for almost every possible thing you can try to do in FL Studio, and more on blogs etc.

I'm not really an expert, but I'm happy to help if you have any specific questions.
