I would like to chime in on this.

While I don't think it was a mass conspiracy or controlled demolitions, holographic planes, all that is garbage.

I do think the government *could* have done a better job of preventing it, did they know about the exact attacks, probably did not, did they know it could happen and could possibly be being planned, yes I think so.
But you can not argue that it didn't give the administration a great reason to invade the middle east, even if under false pretenses. And introduce sick legislation like the Patriot act and get is passed almost only due to emotional reasons at the time. When people are in a state of fear or constant fear their rational part of the brain does not function correctly because self preservation is numero uno.
Invading another country is just wrong when you have no real reason to. I'm a humanist killing just one innocent child is wrong, you cannot trade 3000 lives for 300,000 lives that is incomprehensible.
We are just expanding our imperialist ways, some 800 military bases in foreign countries... if thats not imperialism then...

Also read up on opium production in Afghanistan. We are NOT in these countries to spread freedom and democracy that is the oldest shit story ever told, we don't even have that in the US how can we spread it to other countries? lol. If we cared about the people of the world we would be in the Congo/Rwandan.

A fair enough observation. Certain elements of the government seem to have seized upon the moment to better their political and financial lot in life. Like you, I can see this, but I don't have the type of head that screams "Conspiracy!" Looks alot like opportunism from my lowly seat.

Look at the date and scan down to the list of signers. Most of those assholes ended up with positions in the Bush Administration. The Neo-Cons did not need 9-11 to start their war. They were way ahead of the game on that score. Afghanistan, if anything, was a distraction from their plans.

But didn't 9/11 help get the US public and others on board as well. At least initially.

Is it difficult to drum the US Public up for war? (sure as hell hope not, up until now I was certain that I was living in a land of warriors and suffering mothers, don't you take that away from me)

Coming late to this one and I'm quite fond of conspiracy theories, mostly because I live by the maxim " question everything ".
Any of you watch the tv programme " 9/11 Ripple Effect "?
I did and thought it raised some interesting questions.
I also thought the programme makers' motivation which was stated as being a full enquiry into the events of 9/11 was reasonable.

Not really, but 9/11 had us screaming for blood. It gave the Bush administration carte blanche to do whatever they wanted.

You grow up thinking of the government is always right, thats why they are in charge.. duh!
Once you realize that is one of the biggest lies propagated..(besides religion), you can make your own decision about things.
And I think that the internet, or the availability of information now a days is going to be the catalyst for change. An informed populace is a smart populace.
