Do's and Don'ts

RE: Do's and Don'ts
Well since I've been in a slump the last few days, might as well break it by nudging into this for a moment. SPEAK MAH HERETICAL THAWTS ON THE MATTER.

1: Rules say it's ok under circumstance. Hang the rules for a moment, and go more for appeal to credibility. The bible is a latently-written story by four dudes all in their senile ages, contradicting one another the entire way, seriously lacking in cross-referencing for facts or evidence, and written with a tone that anyone with the basic concepts of psychology and literature can tell was meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator in all aspects without providing anything really definitive. Would you consider such a source anywhere else credible? Ask yourself that question before you quote scripture.

2: Prayer is literally the absolute least someone can do when they are doing it for a well-wishing process. It is, already, when it has an actual point, absolutely useless [as scientific studies have shown consistently, prayer has zero effect on recovery and survival rates on seriously/terminally ill patients] and serves no purpose other than to make the person praying feel like they're actually doing something, which science has proven, it doesn't. Now, if you just want to pray for the sake of praying, then it goes from being useless and a waste of time [also forgot to mention that apparently, god has this whole big plan thing and that it changes for no one anyway] to being condescending and near-preachy, if not outright preachy.

3: Shell B up above put it best. Most of us already have a very, very dim view on the bible and its track record. Inspiring though he may be, rest assured; his words won't be much more than drivel to the vast majority of us.

He doesn't want to be taken seriously, darlin'. He's a jesus freak with a martyr complex.

I know that. I used to be one of them too. If he whines now, he can't say folks thoughts and feeling were not made clear - although that probably won't stop him.

I don't want anyone praying for me but realise I cannot stop them praying for me in private, and in reality it isn't going to harm me or help me. HOWEVER, when people make a point of saying out loud and publically "I will pray for you" that is when I view it as sometimes being used as a weapon or a put down, rather than a heartfelt private gesture. In answer to point 2, my view would be pray all you like but don't be telling us all about it.

People who have nothing to say should refrain from giving wordy evidence of that fact.

"I will be praying for you."

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah, that's what it sounds like you said to me...

Christians are experts at talking without really saying anything.

Yes, I applaud Christian for actually making an attempt follow the rules. It shows that he/she may actually want to have a decent conversation instead of just spreading the word.

Indeed, so let's try to not to blatantly break the rules while he is asking about them. He could be asking so he can troll us more carefully, but we don't know that. Behave.
