Ask a Catholic

He's up against some pretty stiff opposition in our history, too. It's actually impressive, in a sad sort of way.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Oh, my bad; I should have quoted the whole thing:

"There are no atheists in foxholes. When you think you are about to die, you'll be ready to get serious with God," in response to Esq, who's made it abundantly clear he and his wife have been in a metaphorical "foxhole", and did not "get serious with God".  Sorry; that was not an aphorism.  You have made it perfectly clear you stand by that assertion.

Also, you might be the single most condescending douche who has ever made an ass of himself in my time on this forum.

And I still do. When facing death, most people will be ready to get serious with God - Christian, Atheist or otherwise.

And you're just in christianity for the cookie at the end.  While your summary isn't indicative of atheists in reality, it is indicative regarding your suspicions of others....and we form those suspicions......by reference to ourselves.

The question becomes...why do you want to live immorally, /w the sex and the drugs and the pron so badly...that you can imagine that desire as having some ability to modify a persons status of belief?  You seem to think that a person could want to smoke a bowl -sooooo much-...that it would actually turn them into atheists......lol......buddy, that can only tell us about you...not atheists, or atheism.

When a person realizes that a Holy God exists, a choice must be made: to pursue that God and become like Him as Christians are called to do or to walk away.

Many choose the latter because their attachments to girlfriends, alcohol, porn, etc. are too great. They count the cost and decide that they do not want to give up the things they love in order to have the greater thing which is God. But until you can see that what you give up is nothing in comparison, you will prefer the lesser things.

Matthew 13

The Parable of the Hidden Treasure

44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

The Parable of the Pearl of Great Price

45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls,46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

God's grace is a free gift? Cool, I'll take one.

*puts on mustache*
Oh, hey, some free grace. I didn't know this was here as I am new to the area. I'll take one.

*puts on ladies wig*
Hey! Is this grace free?
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

That last parable actually helps our case more than yours. The message as I see it is warning of the folly of throwing your whole life away on the promise of something better.

Stimbo-

I don't normally respond to your posts (though you did ask one decent question I was eager to answer), but I feel your post here deserves a reply.

I'm not out to win any kind of award for being the biggest douche in the history of the forum, but believe, if I am the most memorable Christian that ever has the guts to go toe-to-toe with the lot of you for any length of time, I will consider that a badge of honor.

You have home court advantage, I'm heavily out-numbered, and the refs have all been paid off. But I'm still here - trading baskets and looking for an upset win.

Most Christians would have shaken the dust from their feet a looooooong time ago.

Just sayin'.

Glad to see you reading some scripture, Stimbo. I'm guessing it's been a while.
