Which again in of itself does not have to be a bad thing. It's when the people in authority choose to abuse or even people who have contracted themselves out do not meet their agreed upon tasks/goals that it becomes a bad thing.. Or even when greed takes the person who is in authority they want more work in exchange for what is right or fair, does slavery become a bad thing.
Slavery is an institution that bring out the very best or the very worst in people, and as history has shown unchecked slavery always brings out the very worst.
So wait...
Are you actually saying, that in some form, under the right hands, slavery is actually okay?
Please describe under what circumstances and what this slavery would look like.
Your look at the institution from a first world perspective. Or rather you assume you are in a position of someone who could own a slave rather than be a slave if those were the only two types of people in the world. as someone you who only knows the illusion of freedom you can not think of any reason why anyone would elect slavery for themselves. However, imagine you are part of a 3rd world nation, with no prospects of education or even a job outside of being a mud and bamboo hut, mosquito farmer.. Now Imagine millions more just like you. All out of work all with no sustainable way to provide for yourself or family. because the one thing your family has always done (fish farm whatever) can't feed your town's growing population anymore.
Now Imagine Ford, or Apple or Boeing decides to put up a sub assembly plant (under a different name or sub contractor of course which is high regulated by the world goverments) in your part of the world. Now in exchange for a 6th month, regulated 70 hour work week or meeting production requirements, you get housing (maybe a shoe box studio, but it has electric, plumbing, It's clean, and temp control) food stipen, access to company medical and .35 cents an hour in a place where a dollar a day is considered top pay. Which does not sound like a lot, but when all your basic needs are met this is a fortune..
This would be an idea situation, however what tends to happen is a unreasonably long work contract, beatings when quotas are not met, no work shift time limits in some cases, below average pay, when housing is provided it is in shanty towns, and the workers are often times charged for food and housing at a rate equal to or just under what they make so they will never get out from under the company store.
With your acknoweledgement and those like you could come work conditions like or greater than what I laid out above.
