It isn't that poverty causes low IQ, it is because poverty prevents education, an to a very literally degree, that also affects your environment, and lack of clean resources and clean food and clean environment affects your health and creates more disease and birth defects and damage to your body and brain and that does have an impact on IQ, as an average.
For the same reason lead was taken out of paint. The rich companies got away with selling it for a long time, and just like FLINT and water today, that type of pollution mostly affects the poor and causes more health problems in pregnant women and kids that are poor.
Pollution does affect IQ and those who don't have the resources to seek medical care long term are going to have their health directly more affected than someone who does have the resources.
