Nothing, you can't really "stop" a major religion these days without the wholesale eradication of its adherents. Religions like those practiced in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece were extinguished at the same time as the states that fostered them, but most of the major religions of today no longer survive solely under the auspices of one major governing body. Increasing transference between cultures and the movements of people over the millenniums has provided fertile grounds for introduced beliefs to take root among the local traditions, and the rapid globalization and population booms of the past century have only further fast-tracked this process. Pew Research wrote a rather nicely detailed article on the world's projected religious landscape in 2050.
Furthermore, I'm not really sure thinking Islam should be stopped is the right way of going about things. It's certainly going to be the religion that struggles the most with maintaining pace with modernization in terms of technology, democratic principles, and the proliferation of liberalized and secular values, but is it really a good idea to determine that an entire ideology and its followers must be treated with blanket opposition tactics if not all its adherents are equally at odds with your own set of values? Is that really the type of adversarial approach you want to endorse as a self-proclaimed free thinker?
