Good point, MrNoMore, why even only count our solar system? Maybe because big M didn't know a thing about the Universe? Especially if you'd grant that the expansion thing indeed refers to cosmic expansion, leaving out the fact that there are billions of trillions of planets in that very same expanding universe is inexcusable.

Exactly. And if String Theory is proven (or some other idea that states there are multiple universes), we will feel even smaller. I can't get my head around that many universes.

Even if the multiverse isn't corroborated somehow-, we are talking observable universe. The whole will probably be incredibly larger. The flatness of the universe we see kind of suggests that we only see a tiny speck of the whole.
