Not germs; but for the hygiene, even the ancients had some manors and etiquette.
I keep a bottle of dry soap (lifeboy) next to me most of the time, it smells good ! that is for germs; the washing for prayer though is -in my opinion- for the hygiene most of all
We learned health practices and technology through trial and error. Culture is governed by evolution also. Practices that are hygienic are selected and are successful. God is not needed in this equation.
