It took me two years of not going to church and not living with family, to read the Bible for the third time, this time free to actually delve. When that happened, it was like I was reading everything in it for the first time, and I was grossed out. You see, I was brainwashed. That's difficult to undo. I'm one of the fortunate ones. I truly believe I'm a survivor.
That's my story as well. I was brainwashed, and afraid to question. My Mother actually "wore the pants" in our family, but played the sweet obedient loving wife part to the hilt in public. She would even brag to friends that when election time came around, "my husband tells me who to vote for". Even as a proper church-going teen, that one made me gag. Only when I realized that I couldn't believe, did these Bible passages start to sound as . . . repulsive as they are.
