I think I wasn't clear: My whole family was as supportive as they could have been. It was the community that failed me.

The feeling of helplessness must have been awful.  I can only imagine feeling that as a parent; knowing someone hurt your child and no one will do anything about it.  [emoji853]  

I can certainly appreciate that now. At the time, I was too young to get it. They never really talked about it much. That is pretty sad.
