Or, perhaps in your view, "racism" is seen as any random or individual, negative event that happens to be racially motivated, and others view "racism" as being institutionalized. A stark difference in perspective, no doubt.

Or it could be that the two points of view (individual and structural) are actually both valid definitions of racism, although given how one is actually a specific type of the other and some have decided one or the other definition is the only valid definition to suit their own agenda, I prefer to call the second "institutional racism", as Stokely Carmichael put it.
