CIJS,
I must admit that I'm baffled when people remark about my intelligence and niceness. I think part of the reason for the illusion of my perceived intelligence (co-workers, family members, friends, acquaintances, etc.) is the fact that I like ideas and will usually carry around books (usually math stuff) in order to keep myself occupied and learning. In addition, probably one of the biggest mistakes that I've made is performing various mental parlor tricks, which have given the illusion of aptitude and talent. Thus, if people remark about my intelligence, I'm very flattered and taken aback, but at best, and in all honesty, I'm just a guy who is unusually curious . With that said, I truly admire those few, rare people who are intellectually unique/remarkable and can constructively contribute to the expansion of human knowledge/understanding and the advancement of thought and progress, which IMO, could extend far beyond humanity.
Regarding my perceived niceness, I think the credit must go to the various role models that I've had. One of my mentors in high school was of the opinion that respect is a one way street, and while many people disagreed with him on this point (they had a two way view), I appreciated his viewpoint, and it stuck with me as a result. I must also give credit to the various peacemakers and conflict resolution experts who I've interacted with over the years, as they have shared invaluable knowledge with me, which IMO, has been extremely useful in my attempts to enhance/hone my skills in the art of mastering one's emotions and behaving proactively and constructively.
P.S. This is not an attempt on my part to put myself down. Rather, the purpose of this post is to give an honest reflection about myself and to express my admiration for the special people that I've read about or encountered throughout my life. Live long and prosper.
