CIJS,
There is an individual in my department (I'm the manager of women's shoes), who in my opinion, is much more capable than being a shoe associate: I've made it clear to the store manager and the assistant store manager that this individual is manager material. I believe in this person's talent: I know in my heart that this individual would surpass me and be a better manager for the department, provided that this individual receives guidance and training .
That said, in the event that this individual is ready to be a manager, I've been considering stepping down and going to the non-sell team, so that this individual can have a shot. However, if it comes to this, it is my hope that the store manager will back me on this and let this individual take over the shoe department and not allow corporate to just stick someone else from another store in the position. Bottom line: the store has a very talented individual who is still occupying their bottom ranks. We need more people like this individual to occupy our organization's leadership ranks, so that our organization can continue to succeed and prosper. There is no doubt in my mind that this individual has the ability to soar up the store's ranks provided that store management will recognize this individual's talent and develop it.
