And just for context, I decided to try the numbers for the US. While I’m not totally up to it, I found one estimate that claimed the long-term deaths from suicide in the US could be about 75,000 because of the pandemic. The only one I could do was the “let it run wild” scenario with 68.1% catching it. I can’t tell what the other variables are. But applied to the population of the US, 330 million people, with a 5.31% death rate (the estimate for COVID mortality in the US), it looks like this could easily lead to a death toll of about 12 million (3.6% of the population.)
I’m more for finding a balance between yet another depression and the Pale Horseman than “stay at home until there’s a vaccine, which will take until next year at the absolute minimum” but, frankly, between that and just letting it go wild, it’s no comparison.
