Why would I ever want or need a gun, life here in the UK just isn't so scary.

At that point - going and getting a gun really isn' t an option.
If your way works out for you - great. I hope it goes that way for me as well. If so - the worst that happens to me is I lose 1 pants pocket capacity.
But - if things do go sideways - at least I have some chance of protecting myself.
