The death rate is actually ca. 80% of what it was in last winter, and that was the all time high, when a "9/11" virtually happened every single day. Did you celebrate back then?
The last time an amercian proclaimed to see the end of the tunnel is was, in fact, the headlamp of the VC.

Silly response. I'm not celebrating deaths, but obviously that's where you would go with this. I'm joining people like Dr. John Campbell in celebrating that if we're going to reach a decent level of herd immunity, BA.1 and BA.2 appear to be what are going to bring us to that point. Obviously if we get to a good level of herd immunity, it will certainly call for a celebration. You can be emotional and only focus on death counts, but I'm looking to the future, and things are looking way up. I'm extremely happy with how the covid situation is going right now, and I see reason to celebrate. Things are looking way up, and that's certainly cause for celebration imo. If you don't want to join in the celebration, more cake for me.

Just remember, sometimes, the light at the end of the tunnel is less daylight and more... this.
And looking at the seven-day averages for COVID deaths in the US: 2582. And shit hasn't been that bad since mid-February, when the vaccine wasn't readily available.
So, yeah, it looks like the light at the end of the tunnel is looking more like the fiery furnace. And, somehow, I get the impression that if THE CLAAAAAW finally comes, you're going to spend all your time talking shit about it and doing everything in your admittedly limited power to undermine it.
And the evidence suggests that the vaccines are still working at increasing resistance to both omicron and BA:2 (though the evidence for the latter is in its early stages.)
So, it looks like the narrative is actually still very much intact.
The narrative has broken into a million pieces. BA.1 and BA.2 are far milder than the other strains, and it looks like there's a great chance we're now going to get a good level of herd immunity. This is all happening, while the mainstream media is fearmongering over covid more than ever, and the View is saying that masks are going to be with us for life, and we're never going to get rid of them. That narrative is dead and gone. We're past that kind of talk, or we should be at least.

“The bottom line is that the vaccine is excellent against the Alpha and Delta [variants], for Omicron it’s not good enough,” she said.
Regev-Yochay added that it is still probably a good idea to give a fourth shot to those at higher risk, but intimated that perhaps the current campaign, which also offers the jab to the over-60s, should be amended to only include even older groups.
