CMP received a bunch of 1911 pistols a few years ago, but the first lot sold out quickly. No word on when more may be available.
I'll bet my paycheck for a year against a box of stale doughnuts that the CMP will see zero military surplus M-16's. If that was going to happen it would have happened a long time ago.
Not really.
If I am not mistaken - they either sold them overseas or scrapped them for parts for the M4s....
If they retire them all - it will make a glut of them.
It makes more sense to sell them than scrap them for metal....
I'm not sure what's not really here. I'm sure they have scrapped a shit pot full of the older M16's, but the US government has been selling M16's for years to class II FLL's. Parts kits made from these rifles are available from multiple sources. I've seen them for sale with everything except the 3 hole receiver including the auto sear, trigger and selector for less than $500. Complete kits like that are hard to come by these days, but they are available every now and then. Here is a beat to hell one with everything except the lower and the auto sear. $1875 is not exactly what I would consider a good price but...
What I am doubting is that the CMP will ever get any of them.
