Didn't go too well for Mitt! either.
But yeah, since federal employees already prefer democratic candidates any plan to eliminate half the federal workforce can only lose some part of the lesser remainder of republican leaning federal employees, or the even smaller portion of fed independents who might vote for him.
I'm conflicted on whether they'd ever vote for him at all, though. Two reasons. The first being from the fed employee perspective. That these numbers we have about what federal employees tend to prefer come from a pre-open-arson period of the republican political arc. I've met alot of state employees over the years and they have a range of political views ofc but the one thing all of them seem pretty certain of is the benefit and necessity of what they do. The jobs often come with shitty pay and inflexible schedules and intrusive contract demands. With abnormally high retention - there isn't even much in the way of room for advancement or personal development. In my experience, many agreed with the idea that government should be more efficient (left and right), but none that it should not exist.
Then there's the brown thing. Maga is a white supremacist movement first and last. IDK, maybe they would chop off their nose to spite the libs - and vote for a brown hoping white jesus never made them endure that indignity again...but I doubt it. That's a bridge too far. When it comes to the business of burning our government down, even, it must be a white hand holding the torch.
