"I'd spend a thousand bucks out of pocket myself to make sure it'd stay," says Ross Briton, whose son plays football. "I'd work two jobs if it took that to do it. End of story."
Briton says it's not just a sport here: It's part of the culture and a big part of the community's identity. The district should pare down the curriculum before it cuts football, he says.
"I would cut most liberal arts out of the high school. I'd keep math, science, reading. I'd add the vocational education back, because I think there's too much fluff," Briton says.
I appreciate you going out of your way to get the article for me to read. This is what happens when you decrease the budget for education, but as a side note I do think athletics should be sponsored by those who actively participate in them. I'd rather my child be sent to school to learn valuable life knowledge as opposed to subsidizing the talent show of a few. Knowledge trumps talent in my book any day. But that's besides the point - like I said, education needs to become the foremost point of attention for the government, not something which can be cut due to budget constraints.
I'd even go as far as to say if the government can't do it then let it be privatized. (I'm ready to be shot in the face for this as being a bastard capitalist)
