That's a very good observation. Abrams' Trek 'reboot', BSG and the embarrassingly sub-cbeebies pantomime that passes for new Doctor Who are perfect examples of that.
There is a Youtuber called batmanmarch who collects and reviews collectible action figure toys of (surprise, surprise) Batman but most especially 'classic' Doctor Who. He also uses them in episodes of his stop-motion animation adventure series "Doctor Who Action Figure Adventures" and they are a whole Universe away from anything the BBC has been putting out in recent years. His stories are totally original, his and his fellow cast members' impressions of the various Doctors etc are simply spot on, his sets and props are superb, the music and sound effects - known in BBC sci-fi circles as "special sound" - are amazing, taken mostly from the series itself but also from other sources. Everyone, myself included, has heaped praise on his work and said that it deserves at least a television outing in its own right, if not actually included as bonus extras on classic Who DVD releases. Anyone interested really should check him out.
Yet again, apologies for my persisting in derailing the thread.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
