Can I say for sure that gods do not exist? No. But for me, all gods of literature are fictional characters. Nobody contradicts me when I say that Sauron, Voldemort and king Jeoffry are fictional. Nobody contradicts me when I say that Jupiter, Loki, Ilmatar and Aphrodite are fictional. Why are these 'modern' gods suddenly better than all the ones that came before them? Why is it that religious people can laugh and shake their heads when new cults pop up, but don't have the sense to scrutinize their own? And why is your particular god better than all the other ones, who do you prefer, Yahweh or Allah? Both sides are pretty damn convinced that their one is real..
One more thing that seems out of place for me is that a supreme being would take such an interest in what its creations eat, wear, do on Saturdays etc. No, if a god or gods exist, I say that the deists have it right.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
