Because you're a Christian you don't understand the old testament. You don't understand that the bible is figurative and meant to be analyzed over and over again. You can't even speak the language it was written in.

I love it when people cherry pick the whole OT out of the Bible as "figurative" or not applicable anymore. Cute. You would think the all knowing god would know people would take it seriously and warn us to not do it. I mean... it could have saved lives and hurt feelings. But what do I know?
You know nothing. To the Jewish people the bible has always been figurative. What do you think rabbis do? They analyze it and find figurative meanings. And to become a Jew you have to analyze and find the meaning of a story for yourself. This aspect is lost to the Christians who find themselves dominated by arrogant knowitalls.
