Start with a system consisting of a functioning organic brain (and appropriate means of keeping it fresh), and measure the consciousness within it. Now take away the brain's function. Assuming you haven't just created an enrico, what happens to the consciousness? Where has it gone? Can it still be measured, and if not what is the most plausible explanation for why not? What can we conclude from the experiment?
