What do you define as a personal relationship, anyway? I hear this all the time, about christianity being different because of a personal relationship, but how exactly do you define a personal relationship with someone you can't even prove is there?
It's not like you can hang out have have some drinks, or play video games, or bounce opinions off of each other about mundane things. I cant imagine doing the kind of things with Jesus that I would do with my buddies or some respected elder, or whatever.
What do you do with your god that doesn't require you to read a book or talk to someone else in order to get his views on something? How do you know it will be the same as your next door neighbor, who also has a personal relationship with Yahweh/Jesus, without reading the bible or talking to other christians?
This idea should be easily testable. Get two people who don't know anything about Jesus, aside from the basics. Put them in different rooms and have them pray, and write about everything they can think of. See how much of what they wrote matches up with each other, or the bible's teachings. I get the feeling that they won't.
