We have more technology and more know how today, by far, then we did in 1969.
The issue is sending men to the moon was not, and continues to not be, effective use of money for space exploration. The only real justification for doing it in the 1969 was to say "we are better than the Russians" to a somewhat impressionable and idealistic audience.
Hard realists would never have sanction the moon landing even back in 1969.
The only possible justification for doing it now continues to be not to advance space exploration the most for the available funding, but to thump one's chest.
In fact, the next men to land on the moon will likely be there mainly to plant a flag, under the thin and ridiculous disguise of collecting rocks, but this time for the Chinese.
