Northern VA was a humid swampy shithole. DC was worse, having been built on an actual drained out swamp. It frequently feels like you're breathing through a hot damp washcloth. If you ever want to put a little perspective into your life about how much you suffer, go out onto the Bull Run Battlefield in the middle of summer. Sit in the tall grass in one of those fields for 10 minutes. Then spend 10 minutes more imagining what it was like to be a soldier on either side in the Civil War wearing your uniform (wool) and gear.
Charlotte at least has a breeze in some parts. And we've been having a fairly mild and wet summer this year. The year I moved down was fucking HOT (triple digits hot) and a drought year besides. Still humid though. I took a shower last night after scrubbing grout and was schvitzing again 20 minutes later.
