To gain the knowledge necessary to do this I spend years studying, many days for 8-12 hours a day outside of classes. On project weeks I'll wake up, grab breakfast in the library, and then stay in the reference section until I go home, then sit with a textbook and engineering paper on my lap. This isn't a gift I was given. Your doctors, lawyers, weren't GIVEN anything. They send themselves into nervous tired messes in order to gain these skills.
I am of the opinion that anyone can become anything given the urge to put in the effort (with exceptions for surgeons and such, genetic hand tremors stop some). This isn't a matter of god giving a gift to a select few. This is a few deciding to put in work and expand knowledge and skill.
One also wonders if god draws the line anywhere, or if everything we do of any use is part of his "gifts." Is my erotica, my first taste of publishing success, also a gift from god, or can I really attribute the hours I spent up late writing and editing for that? Does god gift porn stars their success? What about serial killers?
Or is it just a certain set of pre-approved successes that god gets to steal the credit for? Am I working in one of the few fields where greedy christians won't rob me of my work to glorify their imaginary friend?
