In answer to the "if" question. Would it change my opinion of the Islamic terrorists? No. They would still be evil bastards just for the stuff they've done since. Would it change my opinion of the US government? Yeah. I would be a) stunned they could pull it off successfully without getting caught, and b) stunned at the sheer stupidity of it on their part. Really, dropping the US into a recession, losing tons of money from their own pockets, all on the chance they MIGHT get congress to declare war on an unrelated country when there were and are tons of real terrorist organizations already trying to do exactly what they did.
