The Crusades: an ongoing psychological disorder?
#4
RE: The Crusades: an ongoing psychological disorder?
Islam had been around for nearly 500 years (according to the story they tell) by the time of the Crusades and Jerusalem had fallen by 637 so by 1096 people should certainly have gotten used to the idea.  There is fairly convincing evidence that one of Urban's main objectives was to get squabbling xtian knights out of Europe so they would stop killing other xtians.

I find it hard to feel too sorry for anyone who gets involved in a war over who has the better invisible friend.
