My experience in a Moon church/organization (korean religion)
#11
RE: My experience in a Moon church/organization (korean religion)
I am wary of thought-collectives that suppress individuality.

It's hard to evangelize nothing, which is what atheism is - a lack of belief.

Religion often masquerades as community. But true communities are heterogeneous, made up of different people with different points of view. Cults demand one point of view and are intolerant of those with different points of view.

A true community is a free association of individuals. Cults like the Moonies are cults because they stifle individual thought in favor of group-think.

ETA - religious communities believe theirs is the correct way to live. This necessarily means that others' way of living is incorrect. This fosters conflict with / exclusion of those who have different beliefs or none at all. Religion divides. Community draws people together. Religious community is an oxymoron.
