Don't you understand (silly question, I apologise - of course you don't understand) it makes no damn difference why any scientist does what they do - as I said in another thread, the astronomer George Ellery Hale built what was then the world's largest telescope on the advice of a green elf that he believed would visit him at night and chat with him. None of that matters. All that matters are the theories they discover, the knowledge they impart to the world.
