My affiliation with communists ended when a student communist group in munich, placed me on a "gulag list".

I can see that happening

A list they had for people whom they would send to "gulag" after "taking power", they kept this list not even as a joke but took it seriously.

Yeah it is true that almoust every ideology has it`s "lights of intelectual capacities" people who cannot rationalise and simply declare thing not in favor of their world view to be irrelevant or not to be affiliated with their ideology believing they can define history by themselves.
