I think the abortion debate is one that revolves around whether someone should be able to receive a certain paid service.
You pay for it, and the doctor kills your baby.
And the doctors receives money for doing so, so for him, there is no higher truth in the abortion debate, no "women's rights" dilemma, only money, and this is the worth of the whole abortion debate in my eyes.
But it has more to do with keeping the government from telling women what they can or can't do with their own body. That's why it's a privacy issue, and not simply a receiving services for cash issue like you want to trivialize it.
The whole abortion debate would be no different if a bunch of fundamentalist Christians decided that men getting vasectomies is an affront to God* and wrote it into law. It's not their decision what I can or can't do with my body, it's mine.
*Like the Catholic church officially believes, though I personally know many Catholics who have had vasectomies.
As like, its an individualistic issue, but it seems like it has now a collective character, which is very interesting, I'd say. Why doctors who make a living by performing abortions don't get involved is beyond me.
In a sense, they're taking away their business opportunities, which is the opposite of the free market that the USA supposedly supports. When there is demand, there is service. There is a demand for abortions, and there are people who give out this service. Yet it is amusing that people have turned this into a debate of women's rights, which I think is irrelevant in this issue. In many cases in which abortion is performed for married women, the choice is never made alone.
