Your hypothetical tries to force us to choose between two exceptionally unpalatable courses of action. There is no way, within the survey, to express ones distaste of both alternatives. Which number is larger: a billion or a billion and one? Answer: they're both pretty huge though technically, a billion and one is bigger.
You might measure how much viewers select the third option, "don't answer" by the number of views compared to the number of viewers who vote. Even this only shows the proportion of your audience who can be so manipulated rather than just saying, 'fuck you.'
Fuck you

Your loved one would be permanently crippled, but not dead.
Also you never actually get to see the psycho who kidnapped you. He gets thugs to knock you out & you wake up in the room.
So... there would be permanent damage done to the loved one...
Contrasting with not so permanent psychological damage done to the other girl...
Not a fair proposition, then...
Also, how would I come to know that I had to drill the girl?
How long would I have available to... coax her until the actual torturing began?
Details, details...
What sort of imprisonment was that?
I don't know the details, because I didn't come up with this, but I will make it up. The room is about 30ft by 30ft. The ceiling is 10ft high. The walls are unbreakable. There is a bed in one corner, & a bathroom coming off of the room with a shower & toilet & stuff. There are no windows, but their are lights that you can turn on & off via a switch.
