My husband is not an atheist but he was also not a combat troop and worked on a base. His base still came under fire occasionally. One of the helicopters he had ridden in was later shot down during a mission. His job was meterology and he also had given the weather briefing to the crew of the helicopter. Sometimes my husband and his coworkers had to go outside the base to fix equipment.
Drich it sounds like you know little about how the military is run. Do you think combat troops don't ever come back to base? Also, why do you assume these men are on a base in the first place? You can not tell by looking at the photos what job these men do.

There will be people there that had never heard of Jesus.
It is a nice sentiment. What version of Christianity someone follows depends on who they are as a person. You are probably a nice person so your religion is softer and more kind than Drich's.
