Life Is Short; Have an Affair

Cath, it really, really sounds like you just don't want to have anyone blame the repressive sects of Christianity for the things that grow out of them.

While liberal Christianity of any sort may produce relatively normal, healthy children and adults, fundamentalism doesn't. Not unless they escape. You see the stories time and again, and you hear them straight from the horse's mouth. They're abusive and degrading, specifically structured so that those who are in power and misuse it don't actually get in trouble.

As I have already said to Rhythm, this assumption about me is incorrect. And I wish people here would stop assuming that. After all, I'm not sitting here and blaming you guys for being so judgmental on them because they are Christian, so I would appreciate not being accused of being non judgmental of them because they are. 

While I was brought up with and agree with the same morals regarding sex (that it's a precious, beautiful thing and should be reserved for marriage) I don't believe in the strictness of the life style of the Duggars, was not brought up with those same rules, and don't plan on raising my children that way. Rhythm was right about one thing, and that's that I have no dog in this fight. I just find it ridiculous that you guys are so quick to say it was Josh's parent's upbringing that caused him to molest his sisters and cheat on his wife. This is an extremely incriminating thing to say.  

So please, it has nothing to do with the simple fact that they are Christian. I still can't believe that saying something so basic like "we shouldn't make such incriminating judgement about this family unless we are their psychologist" is so controversial around here, but perhaps I shouldn't be surprised at anything anymore.   

I'm not saying stories like the ones you refer to don't exist, and trust me, if the Duggar children, or their psychologist, or someone who's actually an insider of the whole thing came out and said the Duggar's was a house of degradation and abuse, I'd have no reason not to believe it. But until then, I don't think it is right for an outsider to assume and then accuse. The rest of the 18 children, and the parent's themselves, seem like perfectly decent people, and there is no reason to be so sure that Josh's actions was the fruit of the life style he was raised in, and to proceed to throw around such serious accusation.
