As an atheist who has been playing organ for Catholic Mass for the last 25 years . . . (I'm cutting down to ONE Mass in two weeks, and sometime after that I will be FREE!! FREE!! BWAhahahah . . . ) (oh where was I? Oh yeah, Catholics.) Well . . . I have questioned quite a few Catholic Priests. Many don't take the Bible literally. Many don't believe in hell. (Of course, some still do.) I asked why, then, Jesus died and rose again, and was told 1) to show his commitment to his ministry, and 2) he may not have actually risen from the dead. They already take a Gospel reading, and preach on "how this can speak to us today" and "how these words can help us reach out to the needy and suffering". So I think that they will change - - a lot. I think that the idea of literal transubstantiation will go by the wayside, and there will be married priests (I already know two.) and female priests. I think that it will become more of a weekend social justice club.
