The Columbus Dispatch reported Monday that two schools in Fairfield County have temporarily suspended their Bible clubs in response to a complaint letter sent by the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
"[FFRF] sent letters to four school districts regarding Bible studies held in eight high schools, junior high schools and middle schools before class or on lunch breaks," reported the Dispatch.
"Such groups violate protections of separation of church and state if they are led or regularly attended by local pastors, said Ryan Jayne, a legal fellow at the Wisconsin-based foundation."

Here is the thing, the government cant mandate or lead the students, but I don't think a student founded club is illegal, but still, what ends up making this illegal, is if Muslim students or atheist students or gay students wanted to form a club, the Christians would bitch. Once you start saying "I can do this, but you cant" you cease to be applying the First Amendment equally, and that is really what makes it illegal.
The founders were not anti religion, they simply gave us a choice, you either let it all in, or agree to keep the setting neutral. Christians cannot bitch if they do it and others do it, they simply back out because they don't want to share and then falsely claim persecution. It is by design the founders wrote the First Amendment the way they did. They knew once someone started interjecting one sect over another, the other sect would want to do it too, which would end up in a needless fight when the better option is always to leave it at your church on Sunday.
The worst part of their bitching is they don't seem to understand this protects them as well. Let say a majority of kids in a Northern state in a public school are Catholics, and want a Catholic club, then a minority Baptist or Methodist will want a club too, then Jews will want a club and so on and so on and so on.
Well since public schools are not houses of worship the better option, even for students, is to leave it at the door.
