I actually agree with this as well and found it to be quite controversial whenever I've mentioned it. There was a documentary I watched that interviewed a pedophile at length, and by all other criteria he seemed a normal guy. He was never convicted of raping a child or anything, but he just chose to come out as a pedophile. I've seen parallels between this and coming out as gay drawn, and then inevitably you'll get loads of people shouting it down saying "it's not the same in the slightest", but I think it's probably more similar than people like to think. At least in the respect that I don't think pedophiles can necessarily help that they're attracted to children in the same way gay people can't help that they're attracted to the same sex. My view is that people shouldn't be demonised for something they can't help, even pedophilia. I don't think people choose to be attracted to kids.
