CIJS,
I remember reading an article in one of Mensa's Bulletins that wanted to address the stereotype of Mensa being a club for geniuses. Now, while there are members who could be described as geniuses, for the most part, the article clarified that most members are just bright, inquisitive folks from all walks of life.
Now, on that note, as a member of that organization (I joined during my junior year of college), I'm certainly proof of the fact that you don't need to be a genius to be in Mensa. In fact, I'm also proof that you don't need much intellectual talent or smarts. From my vantage point, a love for ideas and learning, which does not necessarily imply talent, is probably an attribute that is common to plenty of members. Hence, in my particular case, the genius/intellectual talent stereotype is inapplicable, and in reality, I'm just a member who has an above average level of intellectual curiosity, which is more than enough for me.
