As a Christian, I ardently argue with other Christians that we are NOT a Christian Nation. We were founded by a diverse group of men (Christians, Catholics, Deists, Quakers, etc) and while some of our founding ideologies have roots in Christianity, the founders made it abundantly clear that we are a nation where the people are free to believe what they choose. There is little doubt that this country was founded by religious men as there are four references to God in the Declaration of Independence alone, but we are NOT a Christian Nation.

I would argue whether Deism really counts as "religious", and I'm not a constitutional scholar, but some of those references to God might come from that source.
