Poppy seed cake made. It's weird as heck, but definitely nomnomnom.
I started by soaking about 2 cups of poppy seeds in hot water, then drained them (had to use a coffee filter to get out some of the water, because the seeds were too small to put through a strainer). Combined them in the food processor with indeterminate amounts of sugar and flour (dump, sample, dump in some more), 3 teaspoons of almond extract, 2 teaspoons baking powder, about a third of a cup of butter, and an egg.
Lined a 9x13 pan bottom with parchment paper, put in 1 sheet of puff pastry, poured in the batter, topped it with the other sheet of puff pastry. Baked at 325°F for about 50 minutes.
Also put together the jambalaya: 1 cup of basmati rice, cooked (ended up with 2+ cups rice); 2 cooked bratwurst, sliced; 1 onion, sauteed in olive oil; about 3/4 pound shrimp, added to the pan after the onions were cooked; cumin seed; black pepper; Frank's hot sauce; a bit of seasoning salt.
