Oh, everyone is free to interpret the stories as literal or fictional, of course, but official church doctrine is that the OT stories are all true.
Like I asked, what is the point in washing away original sin with baptism if the Adam & Eve story is false?
No sir you are mistaken.
Oh and to answer the question, we still believe in original sin. None of us are perfect and we all have the potential to sin, and we all will at one point. Thats original sin. But that doesn't mean we are required to believe that the world was created in 7 days and that a snake told a woman to eat an apple, etc etc. Only the super old school catholics now a days believe that story is literal.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
