In that case the definition of well off is certainly different. Truck driving in Europe is one of the least desirable job options because of low pay and high responsibility. Automotive workers, well yes. They're usually pretty well paid, but still, how many people actually top 50.000 a year?
I just checked various sources. The median income in the USA is considered to be 30- to 40.000. In my country it's roughly 30.000 before taxes also.
