Cops DO prevent crime. The increase in the murder rate in Chicago when the police slow down in their policing activities is proof positive of this. This is true everywhere and always has been true. I'm sorry you see the cops as a revenge force on crime but that is not the reason for their social necessity.

No, they don't..because they can;t.  They're not precogs, 99% of police work is done after that fact.  You're using a horrendous correlation as a cause, and then confidently declaring truth.  Who said anything about a revenge force on crime?

The reality is that those people who are in a position to try and improve the lives we're discussing don't have the luxury of hate. Hate the cops all you want, hate the institutions all you want but the reality is that there is no future without black people in it and there is no future without police in it. So we need to come up with something better than just thinking that the police are all a bunch of racist assholes, call them out on it and... problem solved. There's a million cops and the vast majority are just like you and me. 

Why do you keep babbling about hating cops?  

Let's also not forget that we are on the same side. Black lives do matter. The fact that I disagree that the entirety of the problem is racism and racist cops is based on the numbers. Contrary to the emotions generated by videos, the number of blacks, whites, Asians, Latinos etc... being killed by the police is in proportion to the crime rates of those groups. Again, I'm not claiming there is no racism and that we can safely ignore racism. I'm saying that we ignore everything else at our own peril. Chicago is the perfect example of this. If you really care about black lives why ignore the carnage that IS occurring just because it's not the cops doing the shooting. Why ignore that policing activities dramatically lowers the number of dead black people?

You say you're about individualism. Great, then how about viewing the cops as a bunch of individuals rather than a homogeneous group of lazy, racists. You don't fight racism by lumping an entire group of a million people into one tidy pile.

I said that millennials, as a demographic, are all about individualism.  Jesus christ man, lol?  I;m a bit of an outlier in my demographic, I;ve been the jackbooted thug, nevertheless my strongest sympathies lie in the same place as the majority of my demographic. That made my job super difficult, btw ...but you wouldn't have heard me whining about it, or abandoning my duty on account of it.

All institutions are made of individuals.  The problems of those individuals become the problems of the institutions, but we trust our institutions to winnow those problems out and have a supressive effect on whatever remainder slips through.  When they fail to do so, or even worse, promote those problems as a matter of institutional operation..ala the chiraq pd violating civil rights as a matter of course, those who represent those institutions are accountable for the actions of the institutions they represent. When they then attempt to conceal those problems, when they complaign about basic principles of accountability and oversight - because hur dur, real tough job-, it goes a step beyond simple failure and into the territory of being unfit to represent those institutions...which is why we probe and reform police departments.

All of this...all of this to try and pin something on pc and sjw, btw?
