In general I agree with you, how ever all those things you listed are because in general we would rather the few that are mature enough to handle things not be allowed to than have a bunch who are not able to handle things be allowed and get hurt for it.
We do not deal with such large numbers and on a case-by-case basis determine who is mature enough to handle what we present. 13 is probably a good are in general to go with, as in many countries 13 is even the legal age to sign up for things on the internet. Given our language it probably would be fine but, I would rather allow an intelligent 10 year old who is capable of understanding reality in than block him out for his age. For me it's passing on traditions that have been a bane in the past. Too many times I was blocked from even simple things like going to see a movie because I was not old enough, when I was more mature that 90% of people of that age. |
