The downside to daedric armor is that it isn't light armor.
I've never been a big fan of heavy armor - it's too heavy, when you consider the encumbrance limitations in Skyrim (until you get the Conditioning perk). Not as much of an issue in Morrowind or Oblivion where it was pretty easy to push your strength to 100.
Me, I'm using Dragonscale most of the time, sometimes swapping out for pieces of the Shrouded and Thieves' set when needed.
Getting my Smithing skill up to 100 and Enchantment up to 70 has really been a help in building some really killer armor and weaponry. I ended up leveling faster than I really wanted to, but in the end it was worth it.
