You can learn from bullshit too (in other words you learn to be more skeptical of such shit, because it's bullshit. But as I always think "You can learn from anything"). EvF |

RE: The Secret:
@KYU
Quote:Are there any? Serious question. Yes,a few. I think Laura Huxley's "YOU Are Not The Target" falls into that category. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laura_Huxley The book does not contain any theory. Rather,it is divided into sections of instructions for a series of Gestalt exercises. I've tried most of them and found they work. Gestalt psychology is not exactly mainstream,so I post the information below in case you are not familiar. Quote:Gestalt psychology or gestaltism (German: Gestalt - "shape" or "figure") of the Berlin School is a theory of mind and brain positing that the operational principle of the brain is holistic, parallel, and analog, with self-organizing tendencies, or that the whole is different from the sum of its parts. The Gestalt effect refers to the form-forming capability of our senses, particularly with respect to the visual recognition of figures and whole forms instead of just a collection of simple lines and curves. In psychology, gestaltism is often opposed to structuralism and Wundt. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gestalt_psychology Quote:Gestalt therapy is an existential and experiential psychotherapy that focuses on the individual's experience in the present moment, the therapist-client relationship, the environmental and social contexts in which these things take place, and the self-regulating adjustments people make as a result of the overall situation. It emphasizes personal responsibility. Gestalt therapy was co-founded by Fritz Perls, Laura Perls and Paul Goodman in the 1940s–1950s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gestalt_therapy |

Quote:That doesn't mean anything, the entire fucking sentence, it doesn't mean anything at all! Argument from personal incredulity (a form of argument from ignorance): " I don't understand it so it's bullshit" It makes sense to me. But then I've actually tried some Gestalt techniques.They work. |

You mean...it doesn't mean anything to you? (as opposed to not at all and to no one).

RE: The Secret:
I had a look at the video and I gotta say, while very intriguing, the whole concept of the law of attraction, I still firmly believe that if you want success financially, career and relationship-wise, you have to work your ass off.

RE: The Secret:
It's a load of bollocks because:
1. It has no evidence 2. I've tried it, it's a load of shite, and it fucked me over. '2.' is personal experience I just wanted to share. '1.' is the reason why there's no reason to believe it, IOW - the important bit. EvF |
