It might even spin/turn out that the President ordered that operation, and therefore gets the credit for dispatching that order.

There. Answered your question.

Huh? What does that have to do with it making him cool? He did his job. That's fucking awesome. The SEALS did their job too, which is significantly harder on a personal level.

This is a bad analogy, but drawn from personal experience, if I told a cook to make a special and was aware that the special was being made by that cook, but took no part in actually making it, do I get credit for its success? No. Good on me that I made sure it got done, but I didn't fucking do it.

On the other hand, if I told the cook to set fire to the kitchen of a esteemed establishment in the name of patriotism, but took no part in actually setting the fire, do I get blamed for the inferno? No? Good. GW Bush would be your best friend.

The Seals are cool. But without Obama, how cool? As cool as anyone could be who swaggers around their barracks bragging about how cool they are. Have they been made cooler than that? Yes. How? By Obama telling them specifically where to convert their coolness into something useful to the country.

Oh, don't be so histrionic. Tell me, would the cook get absolutely no attention in the matter, just because I told them to do it? To be honest, though, the absolute worst blame in that would be conspiracy.

What? Are you familiar at all with the history of the Navy SEALS? They don't need a presidential order to act on every mission they go on.

Haha, yep, that's exactly right. There is no chain of command. There is just Obama and the SEALS. Big Grin

To claim that Obama wasn't responsible for killing Bin Laden or rescuing those hostages, then Hitler wasn't responsible for the Holocaust. I mean, he never personally killed any Jews, did he?
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

What's the worst that could have happened to him, writer's cramp from signing things or a sore throat from talking about it? Still, nice of him to acknowledge his other "I sign papers" peers.

Indeed. Such actions are also political gold.If they were not, they would not happen.

This is realpolitik in action. The ONLY rule is "the ends justify the means"

Oh for fuck sake! Godwin's law? Is that the best you can do?ROFLOL

The analogy is false; Obama is not a dictator, his power is on an entirely different plane.

In any case, the decision was political, not moral, made on the basis of advice that it was politically advantageous.

It's not a Godwin because I wasn't calling Obama a Nazi. I'm just saying that the orders come from the top.

Haha, who said he wasn't partly responsible? However, to give him all the credit is hero worship.

Godwins law:

"As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1"

Yup, you made a comparison involving Hitler. It's technically a Godwin.

I should also mention that, to my knowledge, it has not come out that Obama signed any order to get that shit in action. All he did was tell someone else that he did a good job. I could be behind on my news, though.

He is in politics. Everyone who cares to keep newt or mitt out of pennsilvania avenue is in politics, whether they admit it or not. Promoting worship of false heros is the stock in trade of contemporary American politics.

So what? Because it is the current modus operandi, it should not be pointed out? I really don't get it. What is the problem with giving credit where credit is due and giving only that which is due? Will nothing short of labeling Obama the next Teddy Roosevelt suffice? Again, the guy does seem pretty cool, as politicians go. That doesn't mean I am going to envision him as some political Rambo pouncing on the opposition when we're not looking and playing golf on the Vineyard when we are.
